Business Broker / M&A Advisor
For an advisor who already runs their own engagements and wants to run them with institutional support: sell-side only, in the lower middle market.
Remote, commission only, for experienced advisors.
The role
Wraith represents owners of service and recurring-revenue businesses between $1M and $100M in enterprise value, with EBITDA between $500K and $25M. We act for sellers only and never for buyers.
This role is 100% remote. Advisors work from their own market. There is no office to report to and no territory to buy.
What you would be doing
- Win engagements from owners considering a sale, from qualified leads the firm assigns you and from relationships you build yourself
- Advise owners on valuation, timing, positioning and what to fix before going to market
- Run the engagement end to end, from the first valuation conversation through to closing
- Manage buyer outreach, NDAs, indications of interest and the negotiation
- Manage diligence through to closing
A typical week
No two weeks match, but a week here usually includes some of this.
- Meetings with owners considering a sale, from qualified leads the firm assigns and from your own network
- Advising owners on valuation, timing and how to prepare the business for market
- Reviewing the financial model, teaser and CIM the firm has prepared, and walking the owner through them
- Buyer outreach and calls: NDAs, questions and indications of interest
- Negotiating letters of intent and managing diligence through to closing
What the firm provides
- Qualified seller leads, produced by the firm's marketing and outbound and assigned to you
- Marketing that keeps the firm in front of owners: search, social media and published research
- Outbound outreach to business owners, run by the firm
- A financial model, teaser and CIM created for you
- Analyst support on recasting, add-backs and the normalized financials
- CRM, data room, scheduling and transaction coordination
- State-by-state research and long-form guides you can send to an owner
Compensation
Commission only. There is no base salary and no draw. There is also no franchise fee, no territory to purchase, no royalty on your production, and nothing billed to you monthly for technology, a CRM or marketing.
The split is stated in writing on the first call, before you share anything about your book, your clients or your current agreement.
For how commission splits work across the industry, including franchise royalties and desk fees, see what a business broker actually keeps.
Who this suits
- Three or more years in business brokerage, sell-side M&A, investment banking or corporate finance
- You have carried your own engagements and closed them, rather than supported someone else who did
- Experience or expertise in a specific vertical, or in two or three industries
- You can read a P&L and explain to an owner what is actually driving the number
- You are comfortable owning an outcome without being managed to it
- You handle confidential financials the way an owner expects
And who it does not
- You are looking for your first deal. The large networks recruit for that openly and we do not.
- You need a base salary. There is not one here.
- You want a territory to own. We do not sell territories.
Where we are hiring, and what each state requires
Most states do not license business brokerage as its own category. Some reach the sale of a business through their real estate statute, and some only when real property forms part of the deal. We have published that research state by state.
None of this is legal advice and licensing rules change. Each link opens the write-up with its statute, publisher and the date it was checked.
Your current agreement
We will not ask you to bring listings you are not free to bring, and we will not ask who your clients are before you have taken advice on what you signed. We plan for you arriving with your judgment and your reputation and nothing else. What restricts you, if anything does, depends on your own contract and your own state rather than on anything we could tell you here.
The first conversation is a conversation. Nothing is filed, we do not contact your firm, and we take no references until you tell us to and say who.
Apply confidentially
A resume is required and a cover letter is welcome. Nothing is filed and we do not contact your firm. We take no references until you tell us to, and say who.
If you would rather not use a form, write to careers@wraithbrokerage.com from an address that is not your work one.
